Attend the Lid I-5 Neighborhood Design Charrette 5/7

You’re invited to attend the first major Lid I-5 campaign event! Here are the details:

What: Lid I-5 Neighborhood Design Charrette
When: Saturday, May 7, 8am to 1pm
Where: Capitol Hill Housing (1620 12th Avenue, Suite 205, Seattle, WA)
Who: Open to all (RSVP here)

Why: To kickoff the public campaign for lidding Interstate 5 and to generate inspiring ideas and goals This event will bring together neighborhood residents and businesses, community leaders, and professional designers with the goal of demonstrating widespread support for closing the divide caused by I-5 in the Center City and beyond. This campaign is about you and your ideas for improving the quality of life in the heart of Seattle, whether you are an advocate for parks and open space, private development, affordable housing, or anything between. We are also interested in hearing what improvements are needed for our existing parks and streets in the vicinity of I-5, Freeway Park, and the Convention Center to make them lid ready.

How: We are asking interested parties to form design teams. Make sure to arrive early so you can get a seat! We’ll start off with an introduction of the campaign’s vision, provide you some background information for inspiration, and then set you off on three hours of brainstorming, sketching, and mapping.

Can’t attend all morning? Don’t worry, you can come by any time to participate in other ways and connect with Lid I-5 campaign volunteers. You might also get a chance to talk with elected officials and representatives of local organizations. They anticipate the design teams’ final pin-up and presentations to begin around 12pm.

There will be light refreshments and drawing materials on hand. For logistical purposes they request that all event participants RSVP via this online form (click here).

Looking ahead, they plan on organizing multiple design charrettes, with each event helping refine the vision and promoting concepts with city officials and other public agencies.

If you have any questions or want to be more involved in the campaign to Lid I-5 contact the Lid Team at mail@lidi5.org.
